Rainbow international and Sexual Minorities Uganda co-sponsored a World AIDS Day event in Kampala Uganda
In December 2014, Rainbow international and Sexual Minorities Uganda co-sponsored a World AIDS Day event in Kampala Uganda. Amidst tight security, Youth on Rock group members and many other LGBT people from Kampala and surrounding districts came together for a day of education, counselling,
and voluntary HIV testing on World AIDS Day 2014. The day saw over 150 people take part and benefit from the very well organised event.
Frank Kamya reported, “The event was a huge success with 157 people fully participating in the day. We exceeded all our aims on the day. Health dialogue sessions went on well and members fully participated in Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT). Members also discussed the current situation in Uganda in respect of LGBT human rights violations. The day ended with traditional Kiganda dancing and refreshments.” Another participant commented, “The topics discussed during the day were so relevant in relation to our HIV/AIDS advocacy and LGBT rights in Uganda”.
